Isidora

This contemporary portrait honoring Isidora Goyenechea Gallo (1836–1897) is a celebration of a pioneering Chilean industrialist and one of the wealthiest women of her time. Born into a prominent silver mining family in Copiapó, Chile, she married Luis Cousiño in 1855. Upon his death in 1873, Isidora assumed control of their diverse enterprises, including coal mining, winemaking, and other industries. She managed coal mines in Lota and Coronel, and vineyards such as Cousiño-Macul, significantly contributing to Chile’s economic development. Beyond her business acumen, Isidora was a philanthropist, funding the construction of two churches, two hospitals, and two schools for her employees in the Lota area. Despite her substantial impact, she remains relatively unrecognized as an entrepreneur.
