Breaking Bank & Breaking Boundaries

An entrepreneur before the term was even coined, Isidora Goyenechea Gallo blazed a trail for female entrepreneurs by not only taking up her family's coal and silver mining businesses in Lota and Coronel, but also developing them into one of Chile’s most successful endeavors. This inspiring Chilean industrialist had an empire that extended beyond what people believed to be possible – from running a trade fleet to owning vast vineyards such as Viña Cousiño Macul. Paying homage to this legacy, I wanted create something special with gold - which symbolizes opulence just like Mrs. Goyenechea Gallo did during her lifetime when she built the Palacio Cousino mansion in Santiago de Chile among other things!

It is a body of work created in response to my own experience as a woman living in a man’s world. I chose red for my paintings to represent the passion, power, and determination of women. The veil symbolizes the challenges and oppression faced by women throughout history. The gold-laced flowers represent hope and resilience; despite all the challenges, these brave women never gave up fighting for their rights.
