Gilt
Gold has been used in artwork since the dawn of time and its beauty is undeniable, but it carries a power far beyond what one might expect. To understand why I use gold in the bulk of my work, one needs to look at its direct connection to colonialism and the authority it still holds today. Let’s explore how gold is intertwined with our lives, from ancient times to present day.
The Ancient Connection With Gold
Gold has been around since ancient times, and was used in many cultures as currency or a form of wealth. It was also used as decoration and had religious significance throughout history. In ancient Egypt, it was believed that gold could provide protection against evil forces, while in the Aztec culture, gold was associated with gods and goddesses. Fast-forwarding to the 15th century, we see European countries colonizing around the world and setting up systems that relied heavily on gold for trade. This led to Europe becoming immensely wealthy due to their control over gold production during this time period.
Today's Value of Gold
Today, much like centuries ago, gold is still seen as a symbol of wealth and power. It maintains its value when all else fails – for instance during economic downturns – making it an attractive purchase for those looking for stability amid uncertainty. This can be seen in how investors buy more gold during times when stock markets are volatile or when there is political unrest in certain parts of the world. As well as being sought after by investors for stability reasons, some people buy gold jewelry simply because they love its beauty! After all, nothing quite compares to a beautiful piece adorned with 24k pure yellow or white gold.

When it comes to working with gold, many artists turn to gold leaf for its unique properties. While it can be difficult to work with, it is thin enough that you can use it like paint on a wide range of surfaces, it maintains its delicate qualities, and it is a much more malleable material than traditional paint. One of its most appealing features is the fluctuating values that we enjoy when we experience the transcendence of gold.
Conclusion
Gold has held tremendous value throughout human history due to its association with wealth and power. Its imperial visual aesthetics are undeniable, making it an ideal material for the type of work I make. Whether one is buying precious metals solely for financial security or purely out of aesthetic pleasure – there is no denying that this timeless metal continues to captivate us today just as it did thousands of years ago! A nostalgic aesthetic.
