My paternal grandmother was a beautiful woman with conviction. The superimposed gold that I laced over the red silhouette, highlight her delicate features and revealing a singular confident eye. Living in a different continents than her enabled me to appreciate her life and the many similarities I imagine we had. Even though we never met, we both shared an independent spirit and strong connections with family; she was artisanal and creative, qualities I also embrace. She remains very present in my heart as I continue learning about her through stories passed down from generation to generation. Painting this portrait has been an honor for me, celebrating all the values she embodies in this contemporary masterpiece.
