The Conductor

As I studied the history of the Underground Railroad in more depth, I became deeply fascinated—almost obsessed—with the stories of its heroic figures who risked everything to free others from the brutal institution of slavery. Among them, Harriet Tubman stood out as a symbol of unwavering courage and defiance. Her audacity in the face of immense danger was nothing short of extraordinary. To honor her legacy, I incorporated gold leaf into the piece, creating a pattern of silhouettes inspired by the North American shackles once used to imprison enslaved people aiming to transform a symbol of oppression into one of resilience and remembrance.
