Creating contemporary portraits is something I've always been passionate about. My painting 'Woman of the Wood' is testament to that. In this particular piece, I wanted to evoke a notion of strength in the woman depicted; she has clearly been hardened by the realities of the world, which I chose to symbolize with an intricate painted wood texture for her skin and the gold leaf flowers indicating how delicate life is as well. Capturing this sort of emotion on a two-dimensional canvas, as I have with many other contemporary portraits I've done in the past, is definitely one of my proudest achievements as an artist.
